Welcome to Ian Ribbons' Art Blog

Use the categories on the left to browse the site.  If you know anything about any of the images please leave a comment, this is how I hope eventually to document Ian's work. If you want to contact me direct please email me here . I apologise for the image quality on some of the scans, most were made a few years back and should be redone - that's for another time though! Thanks for looking.

New Website Launched!
I'm very happy to announce the launch of Ian's new website. Ian Ribbons Fine Art will initially be selling limited edition prints of about 50 of Ian's watercolours, about half of which are London scenes, the remainder being a collection of European paintings. Our museum grade prints use lightfast pigment inks and are individually checked to ensure they are the closest possible match to the original. Proceeds from this site will be used to help fund a London exhibition which we hope to organise for 2014/2015.
Please check out the site here - if you have any comments we would love to hear from you either on this blog or through the contact form on the web site

Christopher Marlowe Complete Plays - original illustration & book for sale

Kina Restall-Harding has contacted us through this blog about a picture her father acquired when working for the Oxford University Press in the 60s. This original illustration was used for the cover of one of their titles: "Christopher Marlowe Complete Plays", and Kina's father is offering both for sale. Please contact us at this blog if you are interested and we will send your details on.

Ian's Cover for new book by Dee Bixley

"Inside The Priory" was published in November and the reaction has been very positive.  The author, Dee Bixley, explains:  "By interviewing The Priory's psychiatrists, nurses, therapists, cleaners, gardeners and - most importantly - patients, I have tried to capture the personality of this world famous hospital.  One of the great joys is that Ian's son Shannon gave me permission to use Ian's paintings of The Priory on the front and back covers.  So it's as if my old friend is looking over the project, egging me on in his inimitable fashion."

Thames and nearby

We lived near the river, Ian would often be off before anyone else was awake to capture the morning sun over the Thames. We had Chelsea Wharf nearby, and Lotts Road with its junkyard, and these were also frequently painted.

London markets - early morning views

As well as being a favourite subject of Ian's, these are some of my favourite images with the morning light flaring off pavements, silhouetted shapes and hulking figures in constant movement...

The Antiques Roadshow video

The BBC kindly agreed to let me use a section of the program and sent it to me on disk - so here's the video of Ian on the Antique's Roadshow...
